Back Garden Humanist Wedding

Back Garden Humanist Wedding

I’m going to start my blogging for 2018 with a bang, by sharing Alex and Dan’s amazing back garden humanist wedding with you. It had it all; wedding whippets, the mother of all dance offs, a bridal jacket I wanted to steal, incredible flowers from Wild and Wonderous, and a constant sea of beaming faces all day long.

I first met Alex and Dan way back in the winter of 2016, when I went round to their home to discuss what they had planned for their wedding day. At that point work hadn’t begun on the garden, so I couldn’t quite envisage how things would look. I knew it would be good, but I wasn’t quite prepared for how good the transformation would be. Somehow they (and the garden dream team) made a back garden in Bolton look like something that belonged in LA. A LOT of work went into preparing their beautiful home for their back garden humanist wedding, luckily they have a brilliant and creative group of friends and family, who all chipped in to help.

Wedding at Home

A couple of questions that might spring to mind if you’re thinking about planning a back garden wedding; what’s it going to be like having so many people at your home? The answer to this is wonderful. Imagine looking out into your back garden and seeing all your favourite people having the greatest of times. Who will tidy up the next day? Bribe your wedding guests with pies, and they will return in the morning to help with the cleaning(nice move guys).I guess the big one is, what’s the weather going to be like, will it ruin things if it rains all day? Quite simply, the answer to this is hell no. Alex and Dan had rain and sunshine all day long, it made zero difference to the day, and everyone took it in their stride.

It was such a joy to be a part of Alex and Dan’s day. They completely put their trust in me (which meant so much as Alex is also a wedding photographer, no pressure!), and I’m so grateful for this. I think I’ll drive by their house on their wedding anniversary this year, just to double-check they aren’t having a back garden party again…
