So back at the end of November I took myself on a little trip to Havana, in search of some much-needed Winter sunshine and adventure. Having previously traveled to Rome and New York earlier in the year, I fancied challenging myself a little. After spending far too long on Netflights, I found a bargain flight to Havana and decide to go for it.

Fast forward to the morning of my flight, and I’m sat at the airport feeling slightly terrified. Thoughts going through my head included; will the Casa I booked to stay in even exist? My Spanish is shocking, what was I thinking? Will I be safe? The list goes on. Well those irrational thoughts quickly vanished when I arrived that night at my casa to be greeted by Gladis, the smiliest woman on the planet. The fact I couldn’t really speak Spanish didn’t really seem to bother her, as we communicated through sign language, phrase books, and general hilarity.

As I arrived at night, I was VERY excited to wake up the next day to get my first glimpse of Havana in the daylight. It was a colour explosion. The buildings, the cars, the people, everywhere I looked was just beautiful. I practically ran out the door that morning.

I spent just over a week in Havana, wandering the streets and people watching. I’ve been lucky enough to travel a lot in my forty something years, and have experienced many different places. I like to write a little top ten list about each place, as a reminder of what has stood out the most for me. Top of the list for Havana was the people. Everyone was so friendly, I met some great characters, I had some wonderful conversations, I laughed a lot, and came home feeling like I’d experienced something really special.
