This is the first time I’ve ever done a personal photography highlights post, but I thought what the hell, it’s nice to share a little bit about what I get up to when I’m not photographing weddings. Plus I did quite a few things in 2017 that I’ve never done before, so thought you might (hopefully!) be interested in that.
Ok, so here’s a quick rundown of what happened in 2017. I traveled alone for the first time, and went to Rome, New York and Havana. Some amazing memories were brought back from each trip, and I’m eager to continue with traveling again this year. I have Lisbon on the horizon, and will hopefully get the chance to venture further afield at some point too.
I started taking self portraits, and let me tell you, it’s been a real eye opener! For every person I’ve photographed, who has said to me “what do I do with my hands?” I now know EXACTLY how you felt. It turns out, I’m quite partial to clenching my fists or putting them into some claw like position. There have been a lot of hilarious outtakes but it’s been a great experience so far.
My love affair with Blackpool continued, with lots of little day trips and time spent wandering the streets there. I’ve said it before and I’ll continue to do so, the light there on the right day is just beautiful. I have the proof below. I’ve also started photographing this great city too, it’s quite ridiculous that it’s taken me so long to do this, particularly when it’s so amazing.
I guess the biggest thing has to be my new found love for film photography. I attended a workshop with Joanna Brown at the beginning of the year, and it pretty much changed my year. The majority of the photographs in this post are taken on film, which is something I’m quite proud of. I’ve started several projects which I’m going to continue with over the year, and have a few other plans up my sleeve too. It’s opened a whole new photography experience for me, and has given me a new burst of creativity.
2018 has already got off to a brilliant start, I have lots of wonderful weddings to shoot and I’m so excited to see what the year brings.
