Having your portraits taken on location can add a whole other level of creativity to your session, and I absolutely love the challenge from that. With some portrait sessions it’s fairly obvious that a studio setting would work better, but if you’re considering bringing something a little extra to reflect your personality, profession, or creative project, then an outdoor location could be just the thing.

Portraits That Represent You
If I’m taking your portrait, I want you to look back those images and feel that it represented who you are at that specific time in your life. The location your choose for this can make a huge difference. Karen Turner ; pictured above in her home studio, is a good example of this. Karen is a portrait artist, so we chose to do some of her images alongside the work she creates. I always find it really interesting to see where an artist creates their work, have you ever seen the studio of artist Francis Bacon? It’s wild! Your unique selling point is always going to be you, so we want to show that off in the best way possible.

How To Choose A Location
Choosing a location is often a really simple process. Before any portrait session I like to have a conversation about this very subject, as it’s such an important factor. We then look at putting together a moodboard. From there I will give you a few different options to choose from. Obviously the weather can play a big part in a portrait session on location, so I generally advise reserving two dates with me where possible so we have a back up plan.
