Yoga Portrait Photography
When the wonderful Maria first contacted me to do some yoga portrait photography with her, I immediately knew it would be something special. She had some strong ideas about what she wanted, but most importantly expressed how important light is to her. As a photographer this was music to my ears. When we’re blessed with lovely light in the UK I’ve been known to do a little excited dance, perhaps swear a little (sorry), and make people “just go and stand over there for me, the light is amazing”. After lots of weather watching we got lucky one evening last month, so took to the streets of Manchester together.
Maria moved with such grace, it was almost hypntoic to watch. At several points during our time together I just stopped taking photographs, watching someone do something they’re so passionate about is very inspiring.
Words from Maria
Maria posted the above photograph on her Instagram account shortly after our shoot, her words are so much better than mine.
“This picture blew my mind away, it looks to me as an expression rather than just another yoga posture, apart from the way the light highlights my bones and muscles and many other beautiful details that I can see in there. Emma captured it, she doesn’t have any strong past reference of how “yoga pictures” look like and that’s why I felt so attracted to her art, I wanted kind of a ‘virgin’ for this. She’s definitely a photographer in it’s purest expression from my view, while photo-shooting we hardly communicated with each other with words, I was doing my thing and she was doing her thing. It was or still is one of those human connections that feels natural and effortless, simple but not”.
Perfect.
