2018 Portrait Highlights
My 2018 portrait highlights are very special to me this year. This feels like an area of my work that has taken me on an exciting journey over the past 12 months. I’ve been extremely lucky to have had the opportunity to photograph so many truly inspiring people.
Highlights for me have been the charity portrait shoot weekend that I organised to raise money for Invisible Manchester , which completely blew my mind. Seriously; the love, support, and donations from that weekend will never be forgotten. It really was life changing in so many ways. I’ve also had the opportunity to photograph some incredible women, that I’ve met through the world of yoga and well-being. Not only have they been a joy to work with, they have each personally affected the way I think and feel about myself too. My self-portrait work definitely got a little more creative this year too. It took an interesting path over the Summer, when I spent the week in my flat with 120 balloons (that heatwave did some strange things to my brain). Who knew that could be so much fun? The man who lived in the flat opposite me seemed to enjoy it too. Did I also mention I did a couple of shoots In New York?! Now that was a total pinch yourself moment for me, a real dream come true.
The power of social media has played a huge part in making much of what you see below happen. I asked for support, you answered. I asked for my New York dream to come true, you answered. So my top tip for 2019 is to never underestimate the power of putting your wishes out there. Because the chances are, someone will know someone who may know someone, who might lead you to something truly wonderful. Be realistic about it though, I don’t think saying ‘hey Facebook, can I have a yacht please’ will work.
An enormous amount of love and thanks to everyone who has supported and encouraged me this year, I am so grateful. Here’s to 2019 being full of portraits with more brilliant people, and plenty of balloons.
