The Tipis at Riley Green
When you get married in August, you hope for sunshine. You hope you can enjoy the evening sunshine with your families and friends. What you don’t want is the wettest day of the year. Particularly when you have an outdoor wedding ceremony planned. Emma and Josh had hoped for a sunny day, but the sky had other plans for them. Plans that wouldn’t make a tiny difference to the amount of fun and love that surrounded then on their wedding day at The Tipis at Riley Green. This really resonates with me at the minute, particularly as so many of my couples are changing and moving their wedding day plans. I had previously met Emma and Josh at another wedding, in fact as I left that wedding, Emma was dancing with a cardboard cutout of the groom. I think this was a sign that we needed to be friends. I was so happy when they got in touch with me to photograph their own wedding.
Humanist Wedding Ceremony
The Tipis at Riley Green cover all weathers, which meant that Emma and Josh could have their humanist wedding ceremony inside, far away from the rain. I love humanist wedding ceremonies, they are always so personal to each couple. Josh and Emma’s walked back down that aisle with the biggest smiles on their faces.
Rainy Wedding Day
I was on high-level weather watch this day. There were a couple of (very brief) breaks in the rain, so we took those opportunities to quickly fly outside some photographs. The legends Helen and Nicola from Fizz and Flute, served the drinks from their slightly wet outdoor bar, whilst guests stayed inside. I always think there’s something lovely about the sound of rain on a tent. It reminds me of festivals. Although when you wake up on the final morning and you have to pack everything up, it’s generally raining, just to make it painful.
I got to know Emma and Josh a WHOLE lot better during their wedding speeches, possibly a little too well. Emma’s best men, and Josh’s brother did not hold back. Spirits were definitely high after dinner, and things got a little wild.
A huge amount of love goes to Emma, Josh, and all their crew. Further proof that it’s people who make celebrations so special. You might be planning a wedding with just yourselves and a couple of witnesses, or a huge shindig with with everyone. It will be the important people who you choose to celebrate with that will bring your memories back to life. When you revisit that day in years to come… oh and hopefully my photos too :).
