One of the best things about social media is the opportunities it can bring your way, to have a creative collaboration with someone in real life. My first sighting of drag artist Bipolar Abdul in action at Neepsend Social Club hosting their drag bingo night, it was an absolute scream. Whilst I didn’t go home as the winner of the massive box of washing powder, but I did beginning following BP on Instagram that night. I highly recommend you do the same, their stories make me laugh out loud on a regular basis.
Fast forward to a little while later, and I have an idea of something I want to try in my studio. It involved glassware, colour, and a Pinterest board. I’m often looking to work with people I haven’t worked with before, so took to my Instagram account for some inspiration. Up popped BP straight away, and a light bulb went on in my brain. I sent a message over, shared a Pinterest board, and it was an instant yes, resulting in a very happy photographer.
There was a sixth sense that no direction would be required for outfits and makeup ideas, I knew this would be covered to an extremely high standard without my input. Obviously this was right. It was as if our minds had connected somewhere in the universe, and come together with the perfect colour pallet!
A dream portrait session for me, and the type of shoot that fills the creative well right up to the brim. BP was a total JOY to collaborate with, and I’m so grateful they said yes. Social media can be a bit of d*ck sometimes, but it also has moments that make me feel grateful for its existence, this was definitely one of them. We’re in the process of planning our next portrait session, I’m share an update once it done.
The moral of this story is that if you have an idea for a creative collaboration, make it happen 🙂 If you have an idea and need a photographer, lets chat!
