I’ve always enjoyed documenting the everyday stuff. I generally have a little camera with me most of the time, and of course have a phone camera too. This year I’ve made a concerted effort to carry a little camera with me all the time. My camera of choice has been the Holga 135. It’s little, lightweight, can take a bit of a battering, it’s bright red, and is currently held together by cellotape. It’s also proof that you don’t have to spend a whole load of money on a camera to get some nice results.

As you may already know, I’m drawn towards light & shadow, florals, and colour. My photographs are just further proof of that! It’s quite easy to forget about what has caught your eye until the film scans come back. There has been some nice surprises along the way. As well as some absolute disasters too, but that just film photography with a very basic camera for you, sometimes you have to take the rough with the smooth!

Documenting the everyday helps to keep me present. It can be quite easy to get stuck in your head, particularly when life is quite busy. I find I’m always tuned in that little bit more to what’s happening around me. I’ve had the most boring of walks feel that little bit brighter from spotting a simple tree shadow or building shape.

I highly recommend doing this as a little experiment, and let me know if you do!
